
Material and technical resources
The teaching staff of Foreign Languages Department of the Faculty of Philology provides instruction to undergraduate and graduate students of the Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Physics and Technology, Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Faculty of Transport and Energy, as well as the Faculty of Information Technologies and the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Requests for the acquisition of teaching materials are formed on an annual basis. As of the reporting period, the department has an up-to-date printed and electronic collection of teaching and instructional materials that ensures the delivery of the following courses: “Foreign Language 1,2 (English, German),” “Foreign Language (Professional),” “Practice of Scientific and Technical Translation,” “Practice of Oral and Written Communication,” as well as French as an elective for selected educational programs.
The department systematically carries out work on the formation and renewal of the library collection in order to provide information support for existing and new educational programs. Particular attention is paid to modern teaching and instructional materials that meet the requirements of academic and professionally oriented foreign language education. In this regard, the department’s teaching staff actively cooperates with international publishing houses and annually familiarizes itself with new releases from leading global companies.
One of the department’s key partners is Inter Press, which regularly organizes presentations of new educational publications for the teaching staff of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and represents products of such reputable publishers as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Macmillan, Pearson, Garnet Education, Collins ELT, Hachette, Hueber, Langenscheidt, Berlitz, and others.

Among the books available in the fund, there are books published in our republic, Russian editions and foreign editions. Studying with these study guides 'The English language of specialization' is a new educational resource for professionals in various fields, which allows them to improve their communication skills in English in the work environment, to master the necessary communication skills in English.

The number of books that replenished the main fund included the latest editions of the textbook "English File" (3.4 editions) of levels A2-B2 for the discipline "Foreign Language 1.2" also a series of textbooks "Oxford EAP" levels A2-C2 develops the necessary skills and academic language for those preparing to study in English at the university level, from basic courses to postgraduate research. With authentic content from Oxford textbooks and video recordings of lecture excerpts, Oxford EAP is the ideal course for students of a wide range of disciplines.

Learning from these study guides The Career Path series of English for specializations allows you to master the necessary communication skills in English in a work environment, contains professional vocabulary and context with step-by-step instructions, students immersed in the four main language components: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

The Fund offers the widest range of explanatory and translation dictionaries in various fields, a large selection of grammar books, audio-video, literature on the methods of teaching foreign languages. Along with textbooks in English, textbooks for German and French (German publishing houses Langenscheidt, Huber and French editions Cle International, Hachette), modern dictionaries published by Collins COBUILD for all non-linguistic specialties were purchased.

In the 2025–2026 academic year, the department’s library collection was updated and expanded with modern teaching materials published by Oxford University Press, Garnet Education, Express Publishing, and Hachette, including titles from the English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes series. The overall renewal rate of the department’s library collection in the reporting year amounted to 3%. During the year, 16 titles of teaching literature were acquired at the request of the department. A special place in the collection is occupied by the latest editions of English File (5th edition) at levels A2–B2 for the course “Foreign Language 1,2,” the Oxford EAP series at levels A2–C2, as well as specialized courses Career Paths and Garnet ESAP aimed at teaching professional vocabulary in the fields of engineering, transport, ecology, IT, tourism, and natural sciences. Alongside English-language publications, modern French language textbooks published by Hachette were also acquired. The collection additionally includes Kazakhstani and Russian educational publications.
In recent years, the library has been supplemented with monographs, teaching and instructional materials, electronic courses, and dictionaries developed by the department’s teaching staff, which are actively used in the undergraduate and graduate educational process, including for the training of specialists who use English in scientific and engineering activities. From 2020-2025, 13 teaching aids, 3 dictionaries, 7 monographs фтв 2 electronic courses were published, which are actively used in the educational process.

Employees of the Scientific Library contribute to the successful work and interaction of the teaching staff of the department and students with the library, in particular with a foreign subscription.
